Constantia Valley in your pocket

Constantia Valley Tourism has brought information about the region to your fingertips by launching its free mobile app.

Targeted at the locals, first-time visitors and foreigners who are planning a trip to the Constantia region, the app was officially launched on Monday, February 7.

“It’s like having a local guide in your pocket, sharing hints and tips, special offers, activities and deals,” said Constantia Valley Tourism general manager, Hailey Donald.

Speaking from their information desk at Groote Constantia Wine Estate, she said she had designed the easy-to-use icons that list practical tools, including an events calendar, social wall for chat, services, places, deals, a map and blog-type newsletter.

Ms Donald said people were moving away from using websites and wanted something more visual. “And most people have a smartphone and are using apps. We’re also stretching the horizon by including out-of-town places, such as Robben Island.”

Users will be able to find service providers, restaurants, shops, day spas, schools, accommodation, local businesses, transport, outdoor adventures, maps, sightseeing landmarks and emergency numbers.

All listed places have map locations and direct-calling facilities as well the opportunity to offer cardless loyalty programmes, special deals, check-ins and social media sharing capabilities.

“There’s an event feature where you can keep up to date with all festivals, markets and events taking place in and around the Valley area with the facility to share directly to your personal calendar,” said Ms Donald.

The Constantia1685 blog will have a newsletter release which keeps users up to date with all the latest happenings.

The Constantia Valley app is free to download on either iOS or android smartphones and allows users to personalise their profile to their preferences.

The tourism office is open seven days a week.
