Water Oak Farm Constantia – Open Garden Day 2017

Water Oak Farm is once again open for viewing on the 14th and 15th of October. The horses and riders at SA Riding for the Disabled in Constantia breathed a sigh of relief that this much needed fundraising event on the calendar could go ahead thanks to the kindness and generosity of owners, Winston and Wendy Floquet. This year has been a challenging one for gardeners in the Western Cape as they come to terms with the low winter rainfall and the start of a drought cycle. Gardens have had to adapt to the changing conditions and Water Oak Farm is no exception.

The Water Oaks that line the driveway will lead you to garden rooms of delight and daring. Delights that visitors have come to love like the weaver-nests in the willow over the pond; hidden seating in the meadow garden; a raised kitchen garden, natural pools; sweeping views as far as Gordon’s Bay on a good day; sounds of the fish eagle soaring over the vineyards or the raucous baboons on the slopes behind the house. Daring plantings of aloes, cacti and succulents from all over the world, both sun and shade loving, that inspire visiting gardeners and attract birdlife in abundance. New plantings of water-wise indigenous plants as the garden embraces the need for change.

Water Oak Farm is one of the gardens in the Western Cape chosen by international garden tours. You will not be disappointed! Come and spend a couple of hours strolling around this little piece of heaven or relax with a cuppa in our tea garden.

Tickets are available from the gate and all proceeds go to SA Riding for the Disabled.

We encourage you to support this local and very worthwhile fundraising initiative while giving yourself a relaxing day out.  All you need to do is stroll around this little piece of heaven, enjoy the views and partake in some tea and cake.
